The opportunity
Senior Data Scientist
Kyiv / Remote · Full-time
Our client is a US-based technology company developing advanced unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and navigation solutions for mission-critical applications. Their products are designed to operate in complex and demanding environments where reliability, precision, and performance are essential.
The company focuses on building proprietary technologies that support customers operating in high-stakes scenarios, delivering innovative solutions that address challenging technical problems. With a strong engineering culture, they value ownership, technical excellence and the ability to develop robust systems that perform reliably in real-world conditions.
This is an opportunity to join a team working on cutting-edge technologies with tangible impact, contributing to products that are deployed in operational environments and continuously evolving to meet emerging challenges.
About the Role:
We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist to work directly on the intelligence layer of our autonomous systems. You'll be embedded in cross-functional engineering teams, working on problems that span navigation, computer vision, flight-data analysis, and signal processing — often simultaneously.
This is not a reporting or analytics role. You will build models and pipelines that run on real hardware, in real conditions.
What You'll Work On:
Navigation & positioning — developing and improving algorithms for GPS-denied environments; working with visual-inertial odometry, sensor fusion, and terrain-referenced navigation.
Computer vision — building and optimising models for real-time object detection, tracking and scene understanding from onboard cameras.
Flight-data analysis — processing and interpreting telemetry streams to improve platform performance, detect anomalies, and support post-mission analysis.
EW / signal processing — analysing RF environments and developing models for interference detection and signal classification.
What We're Looking For — Must Have:
5+ years of hands-on experience in data science / ML engineering.
Strong applied ML — you build things that work in production, not just in notebooks.
Experience with computer vision (OpenCV, PyTorch / TensorFlow, YOLO or similar).
Signal-processing fundamentals — FFT, filtering, time-series analysis.
Python proficiency; comfort with C++ is a strong plus.
Experience working with embedded or resource-constrained systems.
Nice to Have:
Background in robotics, UAV systems, or aerospace.
Familiarity with ROS / ROS2.
Experience with GNSS-denied navigation or INS/IMU sensor fusion.
Active interest in defence technology and its ethical application.
Personal Profile:
Rigorous and ownership-driven — you rely on measurements and results, and you see hard problems through to deployment.
Comfortable working end-to-end, from model and pipeline to real hardware in the field.
Motivated by impact: you want your work to matter from day one, in real operational conditions.
What We Offer:
Work on systems that are operationally deployed — your models matter from day one.
A small, senior team with high autonomy and no bureaucracy.
Competitive compensation, discussed individually.
Flexible working arrangements.
The chance to solve problems that very few data scientists ever get near.
